South Wales Police recently confirmed that they will use facial recognition technology to monitor fans at this Sunday’s tie between Cardiff City and Swansea City. According to one of the officers responsible for the decision, the deployment of the controversial system is intended to “prevent disorder” from arising.

Since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the Iranian regime has banned women and girls from entering football stadia. In response, a determined group of female activists operating under the name Open Stadiums have sought to challenge this unfair policy. FSE and the Sports Rights Alliance have backed them from the beginning.

The FSE Board convened in an unseasonably warm Munich last week (25th to 26th October) with a view to tackling some of the most pressing issues and action points that arose from the European Football Fans Congress in Lisbon. The meeting was kindly hosted by Club Nr. 12 e. V, an association of active FC Bayern München fans and a long-standing member of our network.
