testIn September 2015 the second grant, generated through european grassroots fans’ campaign #secondfanshirt organised by Football Supporters Europe (FSE), has been awarded to fans of Second Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg.

The organising core group consisting of German FSE members BAFF (Alliance of Active Football Fans) together with the FSE-Committee decided to give the next 1000 Euros to the Ultra group Corillo and the Fans Project Freiburg for their work with young refugees. Several active fan groups in Freiburg were among the first to organise collections for the campaign under the name of “Second Fan Shirt Freiburg” last year, while players and the club also contributed merchandise.

Since the beginning of 2014 the Ultras of Corillo have been supporting several young refugees after meeting them at a football tournament against discrimination. Since then they have integrated several minors into their group. They are taking them to games, home and away, helping them out with visits to public authorities and finding clubs in the area like Eintracht Freiburg where they can play. Additionally the ultras are intensely studying German asylum legislation to support their new friends in their struggle for their right of residence.

Martin Endemann from FSE: “The experiences of Corillo´s work with young refugees shows what a big role football fans can play in making people welcome in their new home. Nearly all of them came alone, are now part of a group and made loads of new friends by whom they are fully supported whenever in need of help. Big thanks from our side also go to the Fans Project and the club, SC Freiburg, who give their support wherever they can.”
Activists of SFS Freiburg handed over the grant on behalf of the FSE-Committee just before the kick-off of the SC Freiburg – VfL Bochum fixture in Freiburg’s Dreisamstadion.
