We believe it is extremely important to take their views and work into account for an appropriate assessment of events in Saint-Etienne and would hope that any UEFA sanction would award this proactive commitment against hooliganism from the side of fans accordingly. Find their statement below:
Statement from the Fans’ Embassy Russia:
“The Fans’ Embassy Russia team expresses its regret about the situation with riots involving Russian fans in Marseille. We strongly believe that such behaviour is not the norm for our citizens who are traveling to support the Russian national team in France. We are very sorry for those English people who have been injured and are now in hospital. We wish them the fastest recovery.
On 4 JUNE 2016 we want to bring together fans and initiatives, involved in refugee solidarity work in and around football. On 5 JUNE 2016 there will be the next meeting of the anti-discrimination division (ADD) of FSE, which will involve fans from all over Europe from the FSE membership, who are actively organising activities against discrimination in football. The meetings are part of the project 'Queering Football', which is co-funded by the European Commission under the ERASMUS+ Sport Programme.
On June 10 the French Fans Embassy will be the first of 18 RESPECT FAN CULTURE Fans Embassies run by Football Supporters Europe (FSE). It will provide information and advice to supporters and will be located near the Stade de France.
The last event for RESPECT FAN CULTURE - Fans’ Embassies at EURO 2016 and their numerous volunteers ahead of the tournament took place in Paris/France where Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and Concordia welcomed more than 40 attendees for training sessions in the fields of fan hosting, security and media work. The participants were also given latest information about the situations in the different EURO 2016 host cities.
Thousands of fans have downloaded the app since its launch in autumn 2013 and submitted loads of additional feedback and ideas.
For a number of years now, FSE has been in a dialogue with UEFA on fan arrangements at the Europa and Champions League finals, discussions ranging from ticket pricing and allocations to communications on fan-driven choreos and general fan arrangements for the match.
The FSE fanzine has been produced as one of our contributions to the EU funded programme “QUEERING FOOTBALL - Tackling Homophobia and Promoting Anti-Discrimination around EURO 2016”.
Supporters donate team shirts, which are then sold on online, and the funds collected are then donated to fan-led campaigns welcoming refugees to Europe. This month the FSE Committee decided to make contributions of 1000 euros each to two groups from Austria and Scotland.
The DANIEL NIVEL FOUNDATION was established in 2000, after police officer Daniel Nivel was critically injured by German hooligans during the World Cup in June 1998 in France. FIFA, UEFA as well as the German football association DFB and the French football federation FFF are involved in the foundation. Since its formation, the organisations’ activities were dedicated to different measures around the research on football-related violence and the promotion of new, preventative concepts of supporter dialogue, in particular the dialogue between fans and police via so-called “Future Workshops”, as well as the creation of hospitable conditions for supporters.
From January 2016 till the end of 2017, this European project seeks to challenge homophobia in football and aims at establishing an inclusive football culture and anti-discrimination standards at major sport events.
